Our Body, a Temple

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?…

1 Corinthians 3: 16, 17

“From eternal ages it was God’s purpose that every created being, from the bright and holy seraph to man, should be a temple for the indwelling of the Creator.  Because of sin, humanity ceased to be a temple for God.” Desire of Ages (DA) 161

1 Corinthians 6:19
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

It is the start of another year and in general so many people in the world make new year’s resolutions to get healthier, but it seems for all the wrong reasons. There are television shows, documentaries, reports bemoaning the sad state of the general health of Americans. The USA is ~ a fifth of the world’s population, but consumes almost half of the world’s pharmaceuticals/medications/drugs.  As I consider these two verses and think about how I have treated my body in the past and the changes I have made over the decades, I always wonder, how did it become that way? What is the genesis of this condition? Is it a lack of knowledge or people just don’t care? Hosea 4:6
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge,…

Let’s pause to consider the state of humanity. Do we seriously consider God and His requirement for His children each day? Do we consider His ownership of our bodies and without Him we can do nothing? There are many who take better care of their cars and other material things better than themselves. Why? What’s more important to us in this day and age? It’s time we reset our priorities and consider who has ownership of our body temples.
Consider..
We are to make the most of the capabilities and talents lent us by God. All who are weakening and destroying the physical, mental, and moral powers by sinful eating, sinful dressing are in violation of the laws of health in any respect. All will have to render an account to God for all the good they might have done, had they observed the laws of health, rather than being self-indulgent, careless, and reckless of the temple/body they live in…. God says, “…Ye are not your own.” You are God’s property. Your ransom cost the life of the Son of God…. All are to consider the greatness of the sacrifice made. The Majesty of Heaven, the King of Glory, designed that men and women should give to Him their wholehearted service.

In the words of the apostle Paul, there is a depth of meaning: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:1, 2). No one can bring honor to God if he pursues a course of action that will bring blemish upon the body or the soul. Our sacrifice is to be holy and without blame. This is the reasonable service of everyone. We are God’s workmanship, God’s building….
God wants us to honor Him with all there is of us…

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.”

Amen. We must desire and put effort in presenting to God our temple bodies.
For Every function is wonderfully and wisely made. And God has pledged Himself to keep this human machinery in healthful action if the human agent will obey His laws and co-operate with God….
